The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a second suspect for the January 2023 shooting of a Smithville, Indiana man. Edward Deckard, 57-years-old, was arrested Monday, and his accomplice Gary “Kevin” Robertson, 51-years-old, was arrested shortly after the shooting, when deputies used a drone to find him hiding.
The gunshot victim caught the men tampering with his truck, and confronted them before he was shot twice.

On 1/30/2023 Detective Rushing interviewed Edward Deckard (57) for a shooting that occurred on 1/23/2023. Deckard was our only remaining at-large suspect from the incident. His accomplice, Gary “Kevin” Robertson (51) was arrested the morning of the incident and had since been released. During the interview with Mr. Deckard he was confronted with cell phone evidence and confirmed his involvement in the crime. Deckard cooperated and agreed to take detectives to a rural area outside of Smithville to retrieve the shotgun he used. A loaded 12g shotgun was recovered in a brush pile along the 8000 block of Strain Ridge Rd. Gary “Kevin” Robertson (51) was arrested again on additional charges based off cell phone evidence.
