The Tzedakah Initiative, a special project of Beth Shalom Synagogue in Bloomington, Indiana, is proud to announce a donation of $5,000 to New Hope for Families. The gift to New Hope for Families was made in recognition of, and in appreciation for, New Hope’s commitment to provide emergency shelter and supportive services for families experiencing homelessness, treating them with respect and compassion while facilitating their transition to stable housing.
Through an individualized program of evidence-based services, administered by caring, professional staff, over 80% of New Hope’s clients move directly from shelter into stable housing, a success rate that is more than double the state average for emergency shelters.
The gift from the Tzedakah Initiative will support New Hope’s client assistance fund, which covers the cost of apartment application fees, helps clients obtain necessary legal documents, and defrays a wide variety of other extra expenses associated with a family’s transition from homelessness to stability.
Tzedakah, in Hebrew, means “giving with justice.”
