Meals on Wheels celebrates 50 years of Volunteer Service to the
Community

During April’s National Volunteer Week, Bloomington Meals on Wheels is
thankful to celebrate the volunteers that deliver meals to over 108
clients.  “Volunteers are the heart of Meals on Wheels.  We could not do
what we do without them. One of the great things about being a Meals on
Wheels volunteer is the immediate gratification one experiences. You see
it on the clients’ faces,” Kathy Romy, Past Board Chair and Former
Executive Director explains.

Last week Bloomington Meals on Wheels was awarded the “Be More Impactful
Award – Group” at the City of Bloomington’s Volunteer Network Annual Be
More Awards. “Bloomington Meals on Wheels volunteers never cease to
amaze me. For fifty years they have stepped up whenever asked, to do
whatever is needed and their homebound neighbors have benefited greatly
from their selflessness.  Our 300 current volunteers, several of which
have been with us for over 40 years, inspire me every day to do my best
to make a difference here in Bloomington.”, shares Carrie McHaley, MOW
Executive Director.

Bloomington Meals on Wheels has been providing two nutritious meals a
day to the elderly, disabled, and homebound within the Bloomington city
limits for 50 years.
Founded to serve patients released from the hospital, the service has
now expanded to nine routes, and a mobile food pantry delivery service,
Groceries to Go.  Bloomington Meals on Wheels, Inc. has no age or income
requirements to qualify for services. Through support of both IU Health
Bloomington and Meadowood Retirement Community nutritious meals are
offered to clients at an affordable cost.
