A pedestrian was seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle in the intersection of the Indiana 45/46 bypass late Thursday night in Bloomington, Indiana, according to Bloomington Police Department Captain Ryan Pedigo.
A 25-year-old woman who was driving in the left lane westbound on the bypass called the police immediately after striking a person. The driver had the green light and was unable to stop when she saw a figure, which she believed she struck with her black Honda Civic.
She told police she thought she just struck a person and was unable to avoid them.
Police found an injured 27-year-old man in the center turn lane of the Indiana 45/46 bypass and began to render aid. Police on scanner radio traffic could be heard discussing serious facial and leg injuries, but once a person is taken to the hospital, police are unable to get updates on a person’s condition due to HIPAA laws, so the person’s current condition is unknown.
The driver stayed at the scene after striking the person who was wearing dark clothing and walking during a rainstorm.
