Image shows fiery crash that shut down Interstate 65 near bridge over Ohio River between Indiana and Kentucky Monday; I-65 reopened Monday afternoon

An image from the Traffic Response and Incident Management Assisting the River Cities Twitter page shows a fiery crash that left a semi-truck hanging over the side of the Kennedy Bridge between Indiana and Kentucky, on Monday, May 8, 2023. The highway was shut down while crews cleared the wreckage.

A fiery crash, Monday, left the driver of a semi-truck dead in Louisville, Kentucky, according to reports.

The driver lost control of a semi-truck just before 12:30 p.m. and crashed. The semi caught fire and was left dangling over the side of the elevated southbound lanes of Interstate 65 just south of the Kennedy Bridge.

The identity of the driver had not been released early Monday afternoon pending notification of next of kin.

The crash caused the Indiana State Police to close I-65 at 265 in Clark County, Indiana, and also ramps to I-65 south at Clarksville, Indiana and Jeffersonville, Indiana.

All lanes of I-65 were reopened by 3:30 p.m.
