Brownstown man dies in off-road vehicle accident (Jackson County)

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that occurred Sunday in Jackson County.

Shortly after 4 p.m., authorities were dispatched to the intersection of County Road 225 West and 450 North to respond to a serious ORV accident.

Investigation at the scene indicates Robert Carr, 78, of Brownstown, was operating a side-by-side ORV with two passengers when he disregarded a stop sign and was struck by a passenger car driven by Lucas Rogers, 58, of Seymour.

All occupants of the ORV were ejected as result of the collision. Carr and one of his passengers were transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis where Carr was later pronounced dead.

No seat belts, helmets, or safety equipment were used by the ORV occupants at the time of the accident. This incident remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies included the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS, and Brownstown Fire Department.
