Assault at Shalom Center unresolved after stories conflict, according to police

Staff report

June 13, 2023 – Bloomington, Indiana

Three individuals have come forward with conflicting details of an assault alleged to have taken place at Shalom Community Center in Bloomington, according to BPD police logs.

A 42-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, and a 42-year-old man, separately reported to police being assaulted by unknown subjects in various ways, but inconsistencies in their stories and the absence of injuries have led to the case being marked as inactive.

According to initial the police summary, a man alleges that an unidentified assailant threw a brick at his head, causing him pain. Simultaneously, a woman claims she was assaulted by an unknown subject who scratched her leg. Another man reported being threatened with a knife by an unknown male, while an unidentified female reportedly engaged in unspecified actions. No injuries were sustained during any of these alleged assaults.

The lack of matching details and the absence of any visible injuries left law police with little evidence to proceed.

To gather more information, law enforcement officials conducted interviews. An alleged victim asserted that the unidentified male and female individuals not only threatened him with a knife but also threw rocks at him. Furthermore, the man claimed that the known female physically assaulted him by pushing and hitting him. But he wasn’t injured.

With the inconsistencies among the testimonies and the absence of injuries, the case has reached an impasse.
