Drummer, composer, and producer Makaya McCraven will grace the stage at Switchyard Park’s outdoor music venue tonight for a free concert. Hailed as one of the most exciting young musicians in the Chicago jazz scene, McCraven’s unique blend of club show allure, funk textures, and hip-hop-infused sonic layers has garnered widespread acclaim.
Credited as “the most discussed young musician” on the Chicago scene by The New York Times, McCraven’s performance promises an evening of exceptional music at the heart of Bloomington. The concert, presented by Visit Bloomington and Bloomington Parks & Recreation, aims to bring together the community for a night of entertainment.
Switchyard Park, a new outdoor venue in Bloomington, will be the backdrop for McCraven’s musical extravaganza. The park’s spacious outdoor grounds will accommodate music enthusiasts, who are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot. The concert is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM, with the opening act Funk Almighty setting the stage for an evening of groove and rhythm.
Drawing inspiration from various musical genres, McCraven’s performances have been praised for their ability to captivate audiences and transcend traditional boundaries.
Admission to the concert is free of charge, thanks to the generous support of Visit Bloomington and Bloomington Parks & Recreation. Both organizations are committed to promoting arts and culture within the community.
Parking will be available on-site off South Rogers, and South Walnut, but limited. In addition, refreshments and food vendors will be present.
The show is the first of three upcoming free concerts in the park:
June 15 – acclaimed Chicago jazz artist Makaya McCraven with Funk Almighty.
July 20 – Easy Eye Recording artists Shannon & The Clams with Say She She and Abby Jeanne.
August 24 – Grammy winner Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway with Henhouse Prowlers.
