Gosport man arrested for stealing memorial items from Monroe County cemeteries

A Gosport man was arrested by the Indiana State Police after an investigation after a series of items were stolen from cemeteries in the Monroe County area.

In recent months, the Indiana State Police Post Bloomington received complaints about memorial items stolen from various cemeteries across Monroe County. On June 7, 2023, another complaint was reported to the Indiana State Police, concerning the theft of items from a gravesite located in the Salt Creek Township Cemetery, situated in southeastern Monroe County.

“Troopers utilizing a variety of investigative techniques” identified the suspect as Glen Cochran, a 55-year-old, of Gosport.

Thursday, June 15, 2023, troopers successfully located Cochran in the 9000 block of Wolf Mountain Road. State Police noticed several items in Cochran’s yard, one of which matched the item reported stolen on June 7th.

Cochran was taken into custody and taken to the Monroe County Jail on the following charges:

  • Theft, Class A Misdemeanor
  • Cemetery Mischief, Class A Misdemeanor
