Ellettsville Police Department Sergeant Alec Leggio has been honored as the School Resource Officer of the Year for Region 9 in Indiana. The announcement was made during the opening ceremonies at the annual School Resource Officer Conference held in Indianapolis on Friday, June 30th, according to the Ellettsville Police Department.
Region 9 encompasses seven counties in southcentral Indiana. Sergeant Leggio’s contributions to the field were recognized by the Indiana School Resource Officers Association-INSROA, in conjunction with the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).
The School Resource Officer program in RBB Edgewood Schools has grown since its establishment in 2014, according to the Ellettsville Police Department. Initially starting with just one officer, the program expanded in 2020 to include a second officer.
