A male driver struck an electric scooter at the intersection of South Basswood Drive and Basswood Circle, causing injury.

Gun stolen from vehicle – June 27, 2023

A 19-year-old man reported that someone entered his possibly unlocked vehicle, and stole his firearm, and cash in the 1800 block of South Highland.

Scooter stolen – June 27, 2023

An employee at Panera Bread found that someone cut the lock off his motorized scooter at Panera and stole it while he was working.

Man films Thief – June 27, 2023

A man told police he witnessed and filmed an unknown person breaking into his vehicle, and stealing a duffel bag containing men’s clothing, toiletries, and other items at the Morton Street Parking Garage.

Skater collides with car and leaves the scene – June 27, 2023

A male skateboarder ran into a car at the intersection of North Lincoln and East Kirkwood Avenue, then fled, according to the driver.

Hotel employee steals shoes – June 27, 2023

A 24-year-old hotel employee at the Fairfield Inn was accused of taking a master key and breaking into a 45-year-old man’s room to take shoes and socks. The employee was arrested for resisting arrest, burglary, and theft. The type of shoes stolen is not listed.

Man asked to move threatens to use machete – June 27, 2023

A man and woman reported that a male threatened them with a machete out in front of the Seminary Kroger because they asked him to move away from the front of the supermarket.

Man found dead at Lower Cascades Park – June 27, 2023

A 31-year-old man was discovered and pronounced dead at Lower Cascades Park. No cause of death it listed.

Mattress set on fire – June 27, 2023

A mattress was set on fire near the train tracks at South Muller Parkway, and West Third Street. Witnesses saw juveniles running from the area but police were unable to locate them.

Pickpocketing at Switchyard Park – June 29, 2023

A 49-year-old man reported that while he was at the Switchyard Splashpad someone stole his wallet, insurance cards, and money.

Chick-Fil-A vandalized – June 29, 2023

An employee of Chick-Fil-A reported that two company vehicles, a sign, and 2 glass doors were spray painted with graffiti by an unknown person. The report does not say what messages, if any, were spray painted onto the business.

Nearby, some also spraypainted a College Mall sign at East Third Street, and South Kingston Drive.

Cart of food stolen from Kroger – June 29, 2023

An employee reported that a known male stole a cart full of food from the Kroger supermarket in the 1800 block of North Kinser Pike.

Neglect of a dependent and public intoxication – June 29, 2023

A 36-year-old woman was stumbling down South Madison Street, mumbling to herself, with an 8-year-old, and a 1-year-old child with her. She was arrested for public intoxication, and neglect of a dependent.

Woman found dead – June 30, 2023

Officers responding to a welfare check found a 45-year-old woman deceased in the 1200 block of East Miller Drive. Police collected evidence at the scene, but no cause of death is listed.

Man assaulted by skateboarder – June 30, 2023

A 60-year-old man found a man sleeping outside his property in the 100 block of South Rogers Street. When he asked the 47-year-old sleeping man with a skateboard to leave, the man attacked him with the skateboard and a rock, causing scrapes to the property owner’s legs. The assailant was arrested.

Electric bike theft – July 1, 2023

A 71-year-old man reported that an unknown person entered his garage, and stole his electric bike, key, and charger in the 3800 block of East Third Street.

Indecent exposure – July 1, 2023

A 34-year-old woman was arrested for public nudity after a disturbance at Seminary Park.

Stolen motorcycle recovered – July 2, 2023

A business owner discovered a motorcycle in some bushes near a dumpster in the 800 block of West 17th Street. The vehicle was stolen and was returned to its owner.

Man assaulted in a restroom at Public Library – July 2, 2023

A 45-year-old man reported being assaulted by an unknown male while in the restroom at the Monroe County Public Library on Kirkwood. Police found a 55-year-old suspect, and arrested him for public intoxication, and assault.

Editor’s note: There are a lot of reports on the summaries of things being stolen from unlocked vehicles. There are too many to list. However, Bloomington, now a midsize city with midsize city problems, is not the kind of place anymore where cars, homes, and garages can be left unlocked. Please lock your doors.
