Tell City, Ind. – July 3, 2023
Tell City Police Department Sergeant Heather Glenn was fatally shot while responding to a call involving a suspect and a female victim at a hospital in Tell City, according to the Indiana State Police. Glenn was investigating a domestic dispute.
Sergeant Glenn had been dispatched to mediate the dispute between 34-year-old Sean Hubert of Tell City and the female victim, who managed to reach Perry County Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Sergeant Glenn spoke with the female victim at the hospital before leaving, accompanied by other officers, to search for Hubert. The following day, on July 3, 2023, the female victim alerted hospital staff that Hubert was en route to the medical facility. Officers from the Tell City Police Department, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, and Cannelton Police Department promptly responded to the hospital.
Upon making contact with Hubert, Sergeant Glenn attempted to place him under arrest, but he refused to comply. In an effort to gain control of the situation, Sergeant Glenn deployed an electronic-controlled weapon. A brief struggle ensued, during which Hubert produced a firearm and shot Sergeant Glenn. Responding officers from the Tell City Police Department and Cannelton Police Department returned fire, ultimately shooting Hubert. Both Sergeant Glenn and Hubert died at the scene.
Sergeant Heather Glenn dedicated nearly two decades of her life to public service, working for both the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and Tell City Police Department, according to the ISP. Known as a highly respected officer and a pillar of the community, her loss is deeply felt. Tell City Police Chief Derrick Lawalin described Sergeant Glenn as a cherished friend to all and expressed his sadness, stating that her memory will endure despite her absence.
The investigation into this devastating incident remains ongoing, with an autopsy scheduled to provide further details.
