Daviess County, Indiana – July 11, 2023
Indiana State Police (ISP) and Martin County Sheriff’s Office launched a joint operation to apprehend Eric James King, a 41-year-old resident of Paoli, who is wanted for escape out of Martin County, according to ISP. A pursuit took place on US 231 in Daviess County, when law enforcement officers attempted to arrest King. However, King refused to comply and fled the scene in a vehicle, initiating a dramatic chase.
As the pursuit unfolded, it is believed that King’s vehicle ran out of fuel, prompting him to steer into a private drive. Officers quickly located King and made another attempt to take him into custody. However, King managed to gain control of a police vehicle and used it as a weapon, ramming into another law enforcement vehicle. Seizing the opportunity, he escaped the immediate area in the stolen police vehicle, leading officers on a tense chase.
The pursuit came to an abrupt end when King crashed the stolen vehicle in a field located in southern Greene County. Despite the crash, King managed to elude capture by fleeing on foot. A thorough and extensive search of the surrounding area was conducted by law enforcement, but King remained at large, evading authorities.
Eric James King is described as a white male standing at approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and sports a beard and mustache. Authorities are cautioning the public not to approach King under any circumstances. If anyone spots him or has any information regarding his whereabouts, they are urged to contact emergency services immediately by dialing 911. Given the potential danger posed by King, he should be considered armed and dangerous.
At present, no further details regarding the ongoing investigation will be released to the public.
