Bloomington, Ind. — July 16, 2023
A shooting at a Subway restaurant in Bloomington on July 15 led to the arrest of a suspect, according Captain Ryan Pedigo of the Bloomington Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Kinser Pike.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a 51-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest outside the restaurant near the dumpsters. Emergency services transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he underwent multiple emergency surgeries. At the time of this report, the victim remains in critical condition.
Investigations conducted by the Bloomington Police Department revealed that the suspect in the shooting has been identified as 22-year-old Bloomington resident Sean Rivers. Rivers was employed at Subway where the altercation took place. Witnesses informed investigators that Rivers and the victim engaged in a verbal argument due to a parking dispute. Subsequently, the victim exited the restaurant and Rivers was seen following him toward the last known location of the victim. Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot shortly thereafter. Rivers then returned to the restaurant, collected his belongings, and left the premises on foot.
At 1:55 p.m., officers apprehended Rivers without incident at a residence in the 500 block of W Northlane Drive.
Following his arrest, Rivers was transported to the Bloomington Police Department for an interview before being taken to the Monroe County Jail. He has been remanded on a charge of attempted murder, classified as a level 1 felony.
