Josef Newgarden clinched victory in the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 on Saturday, July 22, 2023. The IndyCar driver of Car No. 2 emerged triumphant after completing 250 laps, claiming the checkered flag at the Iowa Speedway.
Newgarden led 129 laps.
The Hy-Vee Homefront 250 was packed with intense competition from the start, with Scott McLaughlin, driving Car No. 3, pushing Newgarden to the limit. McLaughlin secured second place, finishing just a few seconds behind the winner with a total time of 01:33:43.8513. Despite not leading any laps, McLaughlin’s performance throughout the race kept him firmly in contention for the top spot.
Pato O’Ward, driving No. 5, secured the third position in the race. O’Ward finished the 250 laps in 01:33:50.0830.
Marcus Ericsson, driving No. 8, secured the fourth spot, while Will Power, in No. 12, claimed the fifth position despite leading 119 laps. Newgarden’s lead proved insurmountable for them.
Scott Dixon, Kyle Kirkwood, and Alex Palou secured the sixth, seventh, and eighth positions, respectively.
However, not all drivers had a smooth run throughout the race. Graham Rahal, driving Car No. 15, faced an unfortunate accident, resulting in contact that forced him out of the race after completing 149 laps.
As the dust settled and the cheers subsided, Josef Newgarden emerged as the champion of the Hy-Vee Homefront 250. With his performance, Newgarden not only claimed victory but also earned 53 championship points. The win further solidified his position as a top contender in the IndyCar series.
There is another Indy Car race at the same track tomorrow as the NTT IndyCar Series Hy-Vee One Step 250 race takes center stage at 2 pm.
