Bloomington, Indiana – July 28, 2023
The Banneker Community Center is inviting residents to participate in an 8-week healthy lifestyle program, “Food as Medicine,” designed to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and tools to adopt a healthier way of living. The program, running from August 3 to September 21, 2023, will cover essential aspects of nutrition, culinary skills, and physical activity.
Hosted each Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., “Food as Medicine” aims to provide participants with valuable insights into nutrition basics, teaching them how to prepare simple yet nutritious dishes. Additionally, attendees will discover effective ways to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines, promoting a holistic approach to well-being.
One of the unique incentives of this program is that all participants will receive free, weekly boxes of food. These boxes are carefully curated to include the necessary ingredients to recreate the simple, healthy meals learned during the sessions. This initiative is aimed at encouraging families to implement their newfound knowledge and culinary skills at home, fostering healthier eating habits within the community.
Registration for the “Food as Medicine” program is currently open and will remain available until all class spots are filled.
