Monroe County legislators receive summer study committee assignments
STATEHOUSE (Aug. 4, 2023) – Area legislators recently received interim study committee appointments and will take a deep dive into issues facing Hoosiers as they prepare for the next legislative session in January.
Lawmakers serve on interim committees throughout the summer and fall to examine policy topics, gather public input and recommend potential legislation.
State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications.
“Reviewing the state’s efforts to ensure widespread and adequate broadband service, and a resilient energy grid that’s affordable for Hoosiers, are some of the more important topics we’ll look at,” Hall said. “This will help lawmakers craft legislation for next year’s session, which will kick off in January.”
State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance.
“Health care costs continue to financially strain too many Hoosiers and businesses alike,” Heaton said. “We need to continue finding ways to alleviate this burden, including taking a look at certain pre-authorization processes that can be an unnecessary barrier to care.”
State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Public Policy, the Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs and the Indiana Commission for Women.
Members of the public are welcome to attend and testify at committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Hearings are also livestreamed and archived online at iga.in.gov, where committee calendars and meeting agendas are posted.
