Hazardous Weather Outlook Saturday Evening for Monroe County, Indiana

Indianapolis, Ind. – August 5, 2023

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for central Indiana, including Monroe County.

Numerous showers and thunderstorms are possible today and tonight. Storms will have the potential to produce heavy rainfall and localized flooding, especially near and north of Interstate 70.

The risk for severe weather will peak from mid-afternoon into the evening, especially near and south of Interstate 70. A few tornadoes are possible, along with the potential for damaging winds and hail. All storms are capable of dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.

Scattered thunderstorms will return late Sunday into Monday morning. Some of the storms will be severe with damaging winds as the primary threat.

Spotter activation will likely be needed this afternoon and evening, and possibly late Sunday into Sunday night.

Residents of Monroe County should be prepared for the possibility of severe weather. Stay tuned to local news and weather reports for updates.

Here are some safety tips to follow during a severe thunderstorm:

  • Stay indoors and away from windows.
  • If you are outdoors, seek shelter in a sturdy building.
  • Avoid downed power lines.
  • If you are driving, pull over to the side of the road and wait out the storm.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Numerous showers and thunderstorms are possible today and tonight.
Storms will have the potential to produce heavy rainfall and
localized flooding...especially near and north of Interstate 70.

The risk for severe weather will peak from mid afternoon into the
evening...especially near and south of Interstate 70. A few tornadoes
are possible with the potential for damaging winds and hail as well.
All storms are capable of dangerous cloud to ground lightning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.

Scattered thunderstorms will return late Sunday into Monday morning.
Some of the storms will be severe with damaging winds as the primary
threat.
