Michael McDowell Claims Victory in the NASCAR Verizon 200 at the Brickyard, Clinches Playoff Spot

Indianapolis, Ind. – August 13, 2023

Michael McDowell secured victory at the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. The event marked McDowell’s first win of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season and his second career win in the series. The driver of the No. 34 car led for 54 laps and claimed victory in Stage 1.

McDowell’s win earned him more than just a celebratory trip to Victory Lane; it solidified his position as a contender in the upcoming playoffs. Becoming the 13th driver to secure a postseason berth through a victory.

The race showcased competition between McDowell and other playoff bubble drivers, namely Chase Elliott and Daniel Suárez, who finished second and third, respectively.

Denny Hamlin captured the win in Stage 2 earning him points in the hunt for the championship.

Tyler Reddick and Alex Bowman secured fourth and fifth positions, respectively, in the race results.

Chase Briscoe, Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, and Shane van Gisbergen, who previously conquered the Chicago Street Course, completed the top 10 positions.

Only two races remain in the regular season before the playoffs commence. The next destination on the circuit is Watkins Glen International. The upcoming race is scheduled for next Sunday at 3 p.m. ET and will be broadcasted on USA, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, and the NBC Sports App.
