Single vehicle crash on I-69 claims life of Bloomington woman Tuesday afternoon

Bloomington, Indiana — August 16, 2023

A vehicle collision on the afternoon of August 15, 2023, resulted in one fatality on the southbound lanes of Interstate 69 near Mile Marker 98, according to the Greene County Sheriff Office.

The crash involved a single vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 49-year-old Tonya Allgood of Bloomington, Indiana. The vehicle initially veered off the south side of the roadway and entered the median before swerving back onto the road. However, it overturned and ultimately landed in a ditch on the north side of the roadway. Allgood was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A juvenile passenger was transported to IU Health Bloomington for medical evaluation of injuries sustained during the crash.

The accident was responded to by the Greene County Ambulance, the Greene County Coroner’s Office, Eastern Greene Fire Territory, Taylor Township Fire Department, and the Indiana State Police.

Deputy Michael McGough of the Greene County Sheriff Office was the lead investigator in charge of the scene. Preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
