BPD arrests driver of stolen car who flipped it after pursuit Thursday on Bloomington’s Eastside

Police arrested the driver of a stolen car after he crashed it on the Eastside of Bloomington on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The car was stolen.

A Bloomington Police Department officer saw the car around 4:13 p.m. Thursday in the area of College Mall. The 2005 silver Toyota Camry had been reported stolen from the Super 8 Motel around 2:15 p.m. It wasn’t in the police report how the car was stolen.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled. Police suspended the pursuit on East Third Street due to traffic and speed. The driver of the stolen vehicle had jumped a curb and continued east at a high rate of speed.

The police officer continued eastbound at a normal rate of speed and soon saw dust and debris in the 5600 block of East Ind. 46 Ind after the Toyota was crashed. The car was inverted, with the suspect still inside. Police weren’t sure if the person had stolen the car earlier in the day, but the driver was in a stolen vehicle.

Police arrested the 22-year-old man in the vehicle, who was not injured. After the driver was taken to IU Health to be checked, he was remanded to the Monroe County Jail.

The suspect faces charges of vehicle theft, and resisting arrest, both are felonies.
