Bloomington, Indiana – September 15, 2023
In a series of incidents, thieves have targeted unlocked vehicles, making off with firearms and personal belongings in separate thefts over the past two days. Authorities are urging the public to take precautions to secure their vehicles as they investigate these cases.
Here are two cases, out of several, that are of interest because guns were stolen:
Case #: B23-52691 Offense: Theft, from Motor Vehicle Date/Time: 09/12/2023 21:10 Officer: Constable D Address: 910 N College Ave
On the evening of September 12th, 2023, at approximately 9:10 PM, a 22-year-old man, became the victim of a theft from his unlocked vehicle parked at 910 N College Ave. According to Constable D, an unknown individual took advantage of the unlocked vehicle and stole a handgun, wallet, currency, identification, and debit cards belonging to him.
Case #: B23-52835 Offense: Theft, from Motor Vehicle Date/Time: 09/13/2023 11:02 Officer: Deckard C Address: 504 S Muller Pkwy; Apt A408C
The following day, on September 13th, 2023, at 11:02 AM, a 23-year-old man discovered that his unlocked vehicle parked at 504 S Muller Pkwy; Apt A408C, had been unlawfully entered. Officer Deckard C responded to the scene and learned that the victim’s firearm had been stolen from the vehicle.
Local law enforcement is urging residents to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent such incidents. Lock your vehicles, and don’t leave your guns in them.
Constable D and Officer Deckard C are leading the investigations into these cases, which appear to be part of a concerning trend of opportunistic thefts from unlocked vehicles in the area.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity they may witness in their neighborhoods to help prevent further thefts and ensure the safety of the community.
