A head-on collision claimed the life of one individual and left another with incapacitating injuries, Friday, September 15, 2023, on State Road 45, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 11:28 AM, emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of West State Road 45 and N. Eller Road following reports of a serious collision. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two single-occupant vehicles damaged by the force of the impact.
Haylee Keller, a 32-year-old resident of Greene County, died on the scene as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. The other vehicle’s driver, identified as Zachary Seiger from Putnam County, was found to have suffered incapacitating injuries to his lower leg and torso. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing crash investigation indicate that Seiger was traveling westbound on SR 45 when, for reasons yet to be determined, his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with Keller’s eastbound vehicle.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, seeking to ascertain the full scope of the circumstances that led to the collision.
“The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office sends our condolences to all the families and community members affected by this tragedy” wrote the MCSO in a press release Sunday.
