Two films with Bloomington, Indiana connections to be screened during Heartland Film Festival in early October

The Heartland International Film Festival is set to showcase the talents of local filmmakers and actors with two productions: “Bloom” and “THUNDER ROLLS! The World of Blind Baseball.”

This year’s festival, taking place from October 5th to the 15th in Indianapolis, Indiana, offers both in-person and virtual screenings, making it accessible to film enthusiasts near and far.

“Bloom,” a narrative film, takes center stage with its engaging storyline and Bloomington talent. Starring Kate Braun, a Bloomington, Indiana resident, the film was shot in various Indiana towns, including Bloomington. The plot follows a woman in her late sixties as she embarks on a cross-country road trip, delving into her memories and confronting her past. Audiences can view the film on two dates:

  • Saturday, October 7th, at 3:00 PM, at Kan-Kan Cinema – Theater 2.
  • Saturday, October 14th, at 3:00 PM, at Emagine Noblesville – Theater 16.

“THUNDER ROLLS! The World of Blind Baseball” takes a look at the world of blind baseball, showcasing the abilities of visually impaired athletes. This documentary, directed and produced by a group of Bloomington residents, explores how individuals who are blind and visually impaired can excel in baseball. The film follows the Indy Thunder team’s journey to win their second World Championship, portraying the camaraderie and determination of the players and their coach, Darnell Booker.

Narrated by Jesse Eisenberg and featuring an original music score by Tyron Cooper, “THUNDER ROLLS!” combines sports action with an educational message. It illustrates how changing the rules of the game, leveraging appropriate technologies, and fostering opportunities can enable individuals with disabilities to compete at Olympic levels. Audiences can catch this remarkable documentary on these dates:
