Single Vehicle Accident Claims Life of Bloomington, Indiana Man on September 19, 2023

Bloomington, Indiana – September 23, 2023

A single-vehicle accident resulted in the death of Virgil Hupp on September 19, 2023, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Sunday.

Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of an inverted vehicle, located in the 3300 block of North Brummetts Creek Road, following reports of a single-vehicle accident with injury.

Upon their arrival, authorities identified Virgil Hupp, a resident of Bloomington, as the sole occupant of the vehicle involved in the accident. According to the MCSO, Hupp was traveling northbound on N. Brummetts Creek Road when, for reasons yet to be determined, he left the roadway and traveled approximately 25 yards off the road, colliding with a tree. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn. Despite wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident, Mr. Hupp died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation, as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the incident.

Responding to the scene and providing assistance, were the Monroe County Coroner’s Office, Monroe Fire Protection District, and IU Health Ambulance Service.

In the press release, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to the families and community members affected.
