Bloomington, Indiana – September 24, 2023
A farming accident on Friday, September 22, 2023, claimed the life of Larry Martindale. Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office after the accident in 9700 block of West SR 45, near the Greene County Line.
Emergency workers determined that Larry Martindale, a resident of Solsberry, Indiana, had been riding on a John Deere tractor, which was being used to maintain property. Justin Ratliff was operating the tractor when it unexpectedly hit a large ditch, causing Mr. Martindale to be thrown off. The tractor continued its course, driving over Mr. Martindale, resulting in severe injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, Martindale succumbed to his injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently under investigation.
In responding to the scene and helping, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received support from the Indiana State Police, Monroe Fire Protection District, and IU Health Ambulance Service.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the families and community members affected.
