Bloomington, Indiana – September 26, 2023
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of N. Curry Pike and W. Vernal Pike following a two-vehicle accident with injuries, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 12:12 PM.
Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies discovered two single-occupant vehicles involved in the incident. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda CRV, driven by an 81-year-old resident of Bloomington, and the Chevy Silverado, operated by a 24-year-old individual from Springville, were the vehicles involved. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the driver of the Chevy Silverado was traveling southbound on Curry Pike and allegedly disregarded a traffic signal, resulting in a collision with the Honda CRV, which was in the process of turning west onto Vernal Pike from Curry Pike.
The driver of the Honda CRV died of their injuries and was pronounced dead at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Indiana State Police accident reconstructionists were summoned to the scene to provide their expertise. Additionally, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office is actively working with the families affected.
In a press release, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend their condolences to all the families and community members impacted.
Assistance at the scene was rendered by multiple agencies, including the Indiana State Police, Monroe Fire Protection District, and IU Health Ambulance Service.
