Bloomington, Indiana – September 30, 2023
Three burglaries were reported on September 29, 2023, on the Indiana University Campus prompting a Crime Notice from the IU Bloomington Police Department in compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
According to the IU Police Department (IUPD), the incidents occurred on different floors of Eigenmann Hall, with all the victims reporting that their unlocked rooms were unlawfully entered and items stolen.
“The first victim reported cash, a debit card, driver’s license, and Xbox controller stolen. The second and third victims, residing in the same room, reported debit cards, Xbox controllers, and an Xbox console stolen. The fourth victim reported their wallet, including debit cards and driver’s license stolen,” according to the report.
The burglaries took place between 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM.
IUPD is actively investigating the incidents but has not yet positively identified any suspects.
Campus authorities urge anyone with information about these crimes or any other suspicious activity to contact the IU Police Department – Bloomington at 812-855-4111. Alternatively, individuals can provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-317-262-TIPS (8477).
To enhance personal safety, students and staff are reminded of several crucial safety tips:
- Always secure doors and windows when leaving residences, rooms, or offices.
- Carry keys at all times, even for brief departures.
- Avoid lending keys to unfamiliar individuals.
- Conceal valuable items to prevent them from being visible through windows.
- Report suspicious behavior or unusual occurrences.
- Ensure that doors are locked when exiting buildings.
