Burglary Suspect Apprehended and Charged Following My Sister’s Closet Break-in

Bloomington, Indiana – October 6, 2023

The Bloomington Police Department announced the arrest and subsequent charging of Michael W. Johnson, 58, in connection with the burglary of My Sister’s Closet, a local non-profit boutique that helps people in the community with the clothing they need to succeed in the job market, which was originally reported on October 3rd.

Captain Ryan Pedigo of the Bloomington Police Department provided details on the arrest, stating that on October 6, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers located and apprehended Johnson in the 2400 block of S Henderson Street, not far from the scene of the crime.

During a search conducted incident to Johnson’s arrest, officers discovered jewelry in his possession. Subsequent investigation revealed that the recovered jewelry matched items reported as stolen during the burglary at My Sister’s Closet.

Johnson, listed as a transient, was subsequently transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he is now in custody, facing multiple charges related to the incident. Captain Pedigo outlined the charges against Johnson as follows:

  • Burglary, a level 5 felony.
  • Fraud on a Financial Institution, a level 5 felony.
  • Theft, a level 6 felony.

Michael W. Johnson is scheduled for an initial court appearance in the coming days, where formal charges will be presented.
