UPDATE: Escaped Convict from Edinburgh, Indiana Correctional Facility Back in Custody

Indianapolis, Indiana – October 30, 2023

Marion Jaynes, an individual who walked away from the Edinburgh Correctional Facility, has been located and apprehended in Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department successfully took Jaynes into custody shortly before 3:30 p.m. on October 30, 2023. Subsequent charges, if any, will be determined by the Johnson County prosecutor.

The Indiana Department of Correction issued the following information at 1:30 p.m.

Marion Jaynes, IDOC #912328, was reported missing after walking away from a work crew at the Edinburgh Correctional Facility. The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on Monday near the intersection of Harding and Lambert streets in Indianapolis. At the time, Jaynes was operating a 2006 blue Dodge Dakota with license plate TK699MLU.

Marion Jaynes had been serving a 20-year sentence for burglary at the Edinburgh Correctional Facility, a minimum security institution situated within the grounds of Camp Atterbury. This facility utilizes work crews for various tasks in multiple areas.

The Indiana Department of Correction is coordinating its search efforts with the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Mooresville Police Department, and Indiana State Police.

Officials are urging the public not to attempt contact with Marion Jaynes or the vehicle. Instead, they are advised to promptly notify local law enforcement agencies upon sighting Jaynes or the specified Dodge Dakota.
