COVID, INFLUENZA, AND RSV, OH MY!

VACCINES NOW AVAILABLE FOR ALL 3 RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES

BLOOMINGTON, IN — As winter approaches and people increasingly seek refuge indoors, the risk of contracting and transmitting respiratory illnesses such as Covid-19, Influenza, and RSV is on the rise. However, there is a straightforward and effective measure available to the public to reduce this risk: vaccines.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that, for the first time in the history of the United States, vaccines are now accessible for all three major respiratory viruses—Covid-19, Influenza, and RSV. Getting the recommended vaccines after consulting with a healthcare professional is a crucial step in preventing severe illness from these infections.

Residents of Monroe County can obtain these vaccines by scheduling an appointment at the Monroe County Public Health Clinic, located at 333 E. Miller Drive in Bloomington. It is essential to bring insurance information as the cost of the vaccines will be billed to insurance. There will be no out-of-pocket expenses for the vaccines, except for the RSV vaccine if it is not covered by insurance.

Here is what’s available:

  • Covid–19: The CDC recommends an updated Covid-19 vaccine for all individuals aged 6 months and older. The clinic provides Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines for those 6 months and older, as well as Moderna Covid-19 vaccines for individuals aged 12 and older.
  • Influenza (Flu): The flu vaccine is now accessible and is advised for everyone aged 6 months and older. Additionally, a high-dose flu vaccine is available for those aged 65 and older.
  • Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV): The GSK Arexvy vaccine for RSV is available for individuals aged 60 and older. The vaccine costs $285 if it is not covered by insurance, but it is covered under Medicare Part D.

For more information and to make an appointment, please call 812-353-3244. The clinic operates on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic also opens on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Monroe County Public Health Clinic is a collaborative effort between the Monroe County Health Department and IU Health Bloomington.
