In the early morning hours of November 13, 2023, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from the IU Health Bloomington’s police, alerting them to a shooting incident that transpired at a residence in Stinesville, IN, according to a press release from the MCSO.
According to the report, a male arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound, prompting law enforcement to initiate an investigation. The victim, accompanied by a separate witness who had driven him to the hospital in Bloomington, detailed the events leading up to the incident.
The victim and the witness informed authorities that they were on the victim’s property in Stinesville, gathering items, when a neighbor identified as 64-year-old Bret Sherrow entered the premises. The victim recognized Sherrow, who is known to him, and observed him brandishing a firearm before placing it in his pocket.
An altercation ensued as Sherrow allegedly began shoving the victim. In an attempt to defend himself, the victim retrieved pepper spray from his pocket but was unsuccessful in incapacitating Sherrow. Sensing imminent danger as Sherrow fumbled for the firearm, the victim fled the scene.
As he ran, the victim heard a single gunshot, which struck him in the buttocks area. The injured party was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.
Efforts to locate Bret Sherrow, the suspect, have thus far been unsuccessful. Sherrow is described as a white male, 5’10” tall, weighing 200 pounds. Authorities caution the public against approaching Sherrow, as he may be armed and dangerous.
