The original Bloomington Krampus Krewe declared there would be no Krampus Rampage and Bazaar event in Bloomington this year. The announcement on Facebook clarified widespread confusion, refuting speculations that the event was set for a return after a purported hiatus in the last two years.
However, two other events by other organizations are set to take its place. One is on Saturday, December 9th. Here is the link:
For a decade, from 2012 to 2021, the Bloomington Krampus Krewe orchestrated the Rampage and Bazaar, drawing crowds and cementing its place as a wild and distinctive community celebration. Originally envisioned to last a decade and culminate on a high note, the event became a hallmark of Bloomington’s cultural calendar, boasting the title of the largest Krampus festivity in North America for several years, according to the Krampus Krewe post.
Reflecting on the event’s legacy, the Krewe acknowledged the unwavering support from fans and the absence of corporate sponsors, attributing the success solely to the dedication of over 100 volunteer members and the enthusiastic backing of attendees.
“Let’s take a moment and remember those oh-so-wild and fun-filled nights,” the Krewe’s statement read, reminiscing about the vibrant atmosphere of the Bazaar featuring arts, crafts, sack races, delectable food, and the palpable excitement brewing among thousands of attendees eagerly anticipating the night’s festivities.
Describing the electrifying moments leading up to the Krampus spectacle, the statement vividly portrayed the scene: “The pounding of the drums, the crackling of fire whips, and the haunting sight of Krampus creatures, with their long claws, rattling chains, and clanging bells, brought terror and joy in equal measure.”
The immersive experience included encounters with towering stilt-walking Krampus figures, fire-breathing displays, and the adrenaline rush as attendees navigated interactions with the mythical creatures, whether it was being playfully chased or receiving symbolic “punishments” like switches or coal smudges.
Acknowledging the disappointment among fans for the event’s discontinuation, the Krewe urged a shift in perspective. “You got to see it! Let’s cherish those memories,” the statement encouraged, emphasizing the unique cultural experience and the underlying message promoting good behavior.
While confirming the absence of the iconic Rampage and Bazaar, the statement hinted at a new organization planning Krampus-themed events in the area, directing interested individuals to find further details on Facebook.
Since we posted this article, we found out about two other events, and this post has been updated to reflect that.
