ISP Stolen Vehicle Investigation Leads to Officer-Involved Shooting in Indianapolis, Indiana

The following was sent by the Indiana State Police to the Bloomigntonian Wednesday:

Indianapolis, IN – December 12, 2023 at 9:12 p.m. an Indiana State Trooper saw a vehicle that matched the description of a stolen vehicle troopers were looking for in the area. He pulled in behind the vehicle, a records check of the license plate confirmed the 2021 Kia was reported stolen. The trooper followed the vehicle to the intersection of 30th Street and Beeler where he turned on his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle turned north on Beeler and pulled over to the right side of the roadway. The vehicle was occupied by three people. While the trooper was speaking with the occupants one person complied and was taken into custody, one person fled on foot and the third person fled in the vehicle. During the encounter the trooper discharged his firearm however at this time it is not believed anyone was struck by gunfire or injured. 

A search of the area is underway at this time with the assistance of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Speedway Police Department and ISP Aviation. The stolen vehicle was located abandoned a short distance from the scene. 

The information in this release is preliminary and the investigation is still active. ISP Crime Scene Investigators are on scene along with ISP Detectives. This is an ongoing investigation and there is no further information to release at this time. Per standard procedure, the involved trooper will be placed on administrative leave.
