BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Members of the Bloomington Fire Department and Bloomington Metropolitan Firefighters Local 586 union extended a hand to families at the local Target in Bloomington early Saturday morning for the annual event, Shop with a Firefighter.
Firefighters exhibited their philanthropic spirit by collecting $18,000 through the Shop with a Firefighter Golf Scramble. They aimed to distribute $15,000 of the charity funds on Saturday.
F arrived, accompanied by their children, each set to receive $125 per child in their household.
Navigating the aisles of Bloomington’s Target store, families selected items of their choice, met by firefighters who waited at the store’s checkout area. The firefighters, adhering to guidelines, made purchases for the families, with a caveat that the items procured were non-electronic.
For many, the shopping excursion centered on acquiring clothing articles and toys for their children.
Members of the Monroe Fire Protection District fire department, which serves Monroe County residents outside the City of Bloomington city limits, will hold their event Sunday morning.
