Staff report

The Indiana University women’s basketball team showcased a dominant performance against Michigan, securing an 80-59 victory at home in a Big Ten clash on Monday night.

From the onset, Indiana dictated the tempo and controlled the game, maintaining a strong lead throughout the matchup. Macken Holmes led the charge for the Hoosiers, tallying a game-high 20 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Sara Scalia was a force on both ends of the court, contributing 16 points and dishing out six assists for Indiana.

Michigan struggled to find its rhythm offensively, shooting 41% from the field and a mere 11% from beyond the arc. Laila Phelia led the Wolverines’ scoring effort with 23 points, but her performance wasn’t enough to counter Indiana’s dominant display.

Indiana’s sharp shooting, boasting a 58% field goal percentage and a remarkable 47% from the three-point range, kept the Wolverines on their back foot for the majority of the game.

The Hoosiers’ commanding performance was evident in various statistical categories, outperforming Michigan in rebounds (30-27), assists (17-7), and steals (3-5).

Coach Teri Moren’s squad controlled the game from the second quarter onward, establishing a substantial lead that Michigan couldn’t overcome. Indiana held its largest lead of 26 points, demonstrating its superiority in both offensive execution and defensive tenacity.

Despite Michigan’s efforts to stage a comeback late in the game, Indiana’s unyielding defense and efficient scoring ensured they maintained a comfortable advantage until the final buzzer.
