Indiana Men’s Basketball Loses 66-57 to Rutgers

The Indiana University men’s basketball team lost 66-57 to Rutgers on Tuesday at New Jersey Mike’s Arena.

Indiana University basketball player Xavier Johnson was ejected during the second half when he hit Rutgers’ Antwone Woolfolk in the groin.

IU’s Malik Reneau, Kel’el Ware, and Mackenzie Mgbako stood out with 13 points each, but IU couldn’t close the gap in the latter part of the game.

The game statistics showed Indiana’s struggle with their shooting accuracy, making 39.7% of their field goals, 26.9% from beyond the arc, and 26.7% from the free-throw line. Rebounding proved crucial for IU, securing 40 rebounds compared to Rutgers’ 51.

Meanwhile, Rutgers’ Mawot Mag led his team with 13 points, supported by Aundre Hyatt and Derek Simpson, who contributed 12 and 10 points respectively.

There was an intense back-and-forth struggle, with five ties and lead changes. Both teams pushed hard in the paint, with IU scoring 32 points and Rutgers getting 24. Fast break points also played a significant role, with IU gaining 15 and Rutgers notching up 19.
