Early Monday morning fire destroys another home in Gosport

Staff report

Gosport, Indiana – January 15, 2024

An early morning fire destroyed a home in Gosport, Indiana early Monday, according to a Facebook post from the Owen Valley Fire Territory posted Monday afternoon.

The fire had destroyed most of the home when firefighters arrived in subzero weather conditions. But firefighters, from multiple fire departments, were able to keep the fire from spreading to other structures.

However, “Extinguishing the fire was complicated by freezing equipment. With dropping temperatures we encourage everyone to be cautious when using kerosene heat sources and space heaters,” according to Owen Valley Fire Territory.

There were no injuries in the fire, and the residents of the structure were not home at the time.

“Responding agencies were Owen Valley Fire Territory, Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department, Cataract Volunteer Fire Department, Owen County Sheriff’s Office, Owen County Highway Department and Owen County 911/Communications Center,” according to OVFT.

This is the second fire in Gosport in the past few days, another fire over the weekend displaced a mother, and three children.
