Bloomington, Indiana – January 16, 2024

In a recent update from the Southwest Branch, it has been announced that the library will be closed temporarily due to severe cold temperatures causing damage. Overnight freezing led to the freezing of an exhaust vent, resulting in the distribution of large amounts of water to approximately one-third of the Southwest Branch. Affected areas include the program lobby, program room, Teen Space, portions of the entrance to the Children’s space, and a small section of the Adult print area.

Prioritizing public safety and comfort, the Southwest Branch will remain closed until necessary repairs are completed. The estimated timeline for these repairs is approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Fortunately, no collections were damaged during the incident.
