FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New “Engaging Exhibits” Series Opens with Barry Gealt Workshop
Bloomington, IN – As the inaugural event in its new “Engaging Exhibits” series, University
Collections at McCalla will hold a painting workshop and demonstration with artist Barry Gealt
on Thursday, February 1st from 4:00-6:00PM. Gealt will show attendees the materials and
techniques that he utilized in his current McCalla exhibition, Experiencing and Remembering:
The Poetry and Spirit of Nature. The workshop will also include a Q&A with Gealt, free snacks,
and the opportunity for guests to create their own work of art.
Gealt is professor emeritus of fine arts who taught at Indiana University for nearly 40 years. In
2017 he received the IU President’s Medal for Excellence. His works have been displayed in
museums and galleries worldwide. Much of his art is inspired by the natural landscapes of
Maine and from around his home outside of Spencer, Indiana.
Gealt’s exhibit is slated for deinstallation immediately following this event. Come see the
exhibition one last time and enjoy an afternoon of inspired painting!
Engaging Exhibits: Barry Gealt Inspired Painting Workshop is the first in a new “Engaging
Exhibits” series that will bring guests from within and outside Indiana University to explore new
and popular McCalla exhibits via lectures, workshops, and demonstrations.
