Body Found in Ditch Prompts Investigation in Bloomington

“The Monroe County Coroner Office along with the Bloomington Police Department are investigating a
death that occurred near the 3200 block of S Walnut Street Pike after a passerby discovered a body lying in the ditch on the side of the road on 01/28/2024. The deceased individual has been identified as Jade Sanders, a 37 year old female of Bloomington who was currently living with homelessness. An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, at 10:00am in Terre Haute. This is an ongoing

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — January 29, 2024

Police in Bloomington responded to a report of a possible death on January 28th, 2024, leading to the discovery of a deceased woman in a ditch off Walnut Street Pike, according to BPD Captain Ryan Pedigo.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of S Walnut Street Pike after a man reported seeing what he believed to be a body while traveling south in a vehicle on Walnut Street Pike, according to police. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of a deceased woman in a patch of brush on the west side of the roadway.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as a 37-year-old “transient” woman, according to police. In response to the discovery, Walnut Street Pike was temporarily closed as officers conducted an on-scene investigation.

The cause and manner of the woman’s death remain unknown at this time. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
