My Sister’s Closet Celebrates 25 Years of Compassion Through Fashion in Bloomington Gala

Written from press release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — February 13, 2024

My Sister’s Closet of Monroe County (MSC), a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering women in need, will host a vibrant gala, “Celebrating 25 Years of Compassion Through Fashion,” on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. at Ivy Tech’s Shreve Hall. The event marks the beginning of Women’s History Month and promises an evening of music, stories, and community support.

The gala will feature a live performance by Bloomington-based R&B & Funk band, The Dynamics, along with delectable offerings from First Class Catering. Former MSC clients will share success stories, highlighting the organization’s impact on their lives.

Journalist Emily Longnecker, a 7-time Emmy award winner from WTHR, will host the gala. Longnecker expressed her honor to be part of the celebration, acknowledging My Sister’s Closet’s 25 years of uplifting women through clothing and essential career services.

“For 25 years, My Sister’s Closet has demonstrated the importance of uplifting women in our communities with not only beautiful clothing, but also the career services they need to thrive and succeed,” said Longnecker. “When you look good, you feel good, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of that mission and this year’s celebration.”

The event will also include a silent auction featuring prizes donated by individuals and businesses across Indiana. Attendees can participate in the unique “Digging for Diamonds” sandbox experience, offering opportunities to win jewelry and other exciting prizes.

Proceeds from the gala will support MSC’s core mission of providing life-changing career services and community programs for women facing challenges such as domestic violence, homelessness, and generational poverty. Additionally, funds will aid the organization’s recovery from a break-in in Oct. 2023, which significantly impacted their ability to serve clients. Any surplus funds will contribute to the organization’s relocation campaign as their current lease ending in December 2024 has not yet been extended.

Executive Director and Founder Sandy Keller emphasized the event’s significance, stating, “This event celebrates the many successes of thousands of women who, before coming to MSC, might have believed that their lives would always be limited, but who have since shown all of us that it is possible to reach out and touch the stars.”

Event tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available on the organization’s website: For more information, contact MSC at (301) 237-0559, (812) 369-6582, or [email protected].
