Bloomington Police Department Investigates Attempted Armed Robbery

Staff report

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — February 23, 2024

The Bloomington Police Department is actively investigating an incident involving an attempted armed robbery. Michael L. Jackson, a suspect in the crime, has been arrested. The case, filed under Case Number 53C09-2402-F3-000130, stems from an incident on February 18, 2024, where Jackson is accused of committing criminal offenses.

According to the Probable Cause Affidavit filed by BPD Detective Chris Scott, the incident took place at approximately 2112 hours on the specified date. The police were dispatched to a weapons-related in-progress call in the 1400 block of N. Telluride Drive, following reports of an individual pulling out a gun on another person.

Upon arrival at the intersection of Vail and Denver, officers found a gray Jeep Wrangler with hazards on, belonging to two alleged victims who claimed they were meeting for a Facebook Marketplace transaction but later admitted their actual purpose was to buy marijuana.

A male detailed the encounter, alleging that a black male, wearing a ski mask, approached them in a red Mazda SUV. The suspect, later identified as Michael L. Jackson, allegedly pointed a handgun at a woman through the driver’s side window, demanding both victims, a male and female, exit the vehicle. A physical altercation ensued, with the suspect hitting the male with the gun.

During the investigation, officers established a connection between the suspect and a phone number registered to Michael L. Jackson. The victim later identified Jackson from a photo lineup with 80% certainty, according to the PC.

Jackson, born on December 29, 1992, is facing charges of attempted armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, battery with a deadly weapon, and intimidation with a deadly weapon. Jackson qualifies for the serious violent felon charge due to a previous conviction in 2013.
