Bloomington, Ind. — February 23, 2024

The Mill, a nonprofit center for entrepreneurship in Bloomington, is set to pioneer a groundbreaking initiative, the Indiana Uplands Accelerator, aimed at catalyzing entrepreneurial growth within the Uplands Region, according to a press release. This transformative program, funded by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), seeks to create a vibrant ecosystem for startups and scalable businesses in counties like Monroe, Dubois, Washington, Owen, Brown, and Lawrence.

Announcing the initiative on February 21, 2024, The Mill expressed its commitment to tapping into the untapped potential for innovation and economic development in the Uplands Region. Andy Lehman, Head of Accelerator Programming at The Mill, highlighted the abundant hidden talent in the area, emphasizing the organization’s role as a valuable resource and support for businesses contributing to economic development in their counties.

The pilot accelerator program, made possible by the IEDC’s Community Collaboration Fund (CCF) Pilot Program, aims to power 16 community-led projects across Indiana, focusing on entrepreneurial education, connection, and acceleration. The initiative aligns with the state’s broader strategy to foster entrepreneurial activity, supporting the growth and success of startups and small businesses.

Pat East, Executive Director of The Mill, expressed gratitude for the ongoing partnership with IEDC, emphasizing the program’s focus on addressing the specific needs of local entrepreneurs and fostering a collaborative ecosystem. East believes the accelerator will not only invigorate the region’s economy but also strengthen its social fabric.

The 8-week accelerator program will offer participants opportunities to connect with mentors and subject matter experts covering various topics such as marketing, sales, financials, investment pitch decks, legal matters, and accounting. Weekly one-on-one coaching with startup experts is also part of the program. The Mill aims to ignite a new spirit of collaboration and innovation in the Uplands Region, anticipating long-term positive effects.
