Monroe County Public Library Invites Community Engagement with IditaREAD™ and Youth Art Month Contest

Staff report written from newsletter

March 1, 2024

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Monroe County Public Library (MCPL) is fostering community involvement with two exciting programs: IditaREAD™ and a Youth Art Month Contest. The library encourages patrons of all ages to participate in these engaging events.

IditaREAD™: Racing Through Books

In a unique literary twist, MCPL invites community members to collectively read their way through the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race with the IditaREAD™ initiative. Participants will aim to cover the same distance as mushers between each checkpoint, from Anchorage to Nome. To join the literary race, interested individuals can sign up on Beanstack, a platform designed to track reading progress.

Youth Art Month Contest: Space-themed Creativity

For Youth Art Month, MCPL challenges young artists to showcase their creativity by crafting an original 2D artwork based on the theme of the upcoming Summer Reading Program: space. Participants are encouraged to draw their favorite planet or create an imaginative space-themed item. Winning entries will be transformed into collectible summer reading prize bookmarks. Templates for entries can be obtained from any MCPL location starting March 1, and the submission deadline is March 31.
