Indiana State Police Detectives Arrest Dejaune Anderson in California; Suspect in Death of Boy Found in Suitcase

Staff report

SELLERSBURG, Ind. — March 15, 2023

Detectives with the Indiana State Police announced Friday the arrest of Dejaune Anderson in connection with a murder investigation involving the death of 5-year-old Cairo Jordan.

On Thursday, U.S. Marshals located and apprehended Anderson in Arcadia, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. Anderson was taken into custody on a warrant issued out of Washington County, Indiana, dating back to October 2022. The warrant charged Anderson with Murder, Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death (Level 1 Felony), and Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony).

Indiana State Police Detective Matt Busick in Sellersburg received information earlier in the week from a concerned citizen, which ultimately led to Anderson’s location in California. Working collaboratively, ISP Detectives and U.S. Marshals were able to identify and arrest Anderson as she attempted to board a public transit train.

Detectives from the Sellersburg post are currently en route to California to further investigate the case.

The investigation into Jordan’s death began in April 2022 when a man hunting for mushrooms discovered a suitcase containing the body of the young boy in a heavily wooded area in rural Washington County.

At the time of the discovery, the child’s identity was unknown, prompting the Indiana State Police to issue a public plea for assistance in identifying him. The boy, described as a young black male between the ages of five and eight, approximately four feet tall with a slim build and short haircut, had succumbed to unknown causes.

An autopsy was pending, and investigators withheld details regarding the time and cause of death.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact Detective Matt Busick at the Indiana State Police in Sellersburg.
