Juvenile Injured in Bloomington Shooting After Altercation Early Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — March 15, 2024

A 14-year-old boy sustained injuries in a shooting early Wednesday following a dispute involving multiple juveniles in Bloomington, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

The BPD responded to reports of a disturbance and gunfire in the 2300 block of S Rogers Street at approximately 5:51 a.m. Initial calls to police alerted law enforcement about gunshots being fired, after people were shouting.

Upon arrival, officers found a teenage victim suffering gunshot wounds at a residence in the 500 block of W Hays Court. Police administered immediate medical aid, including the application of a tourniquet. The victim was taken to local hospital for treatment, with authorities expressing relief that the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim and another juvenile had arranged to meet for a physical altercation. The confrontation escalated as several juveniles gathered on S Rogers Street, culminating in a heated argument. Amidst the altercation, one individual produced a handgun and discharged it, striking the victim as he attempted to flee the scene. The wounded teenager was later discovered at a residence on W Hays Court.

Law enforcement conducted interviews with witnesses and secured the area on Rogers Street to gather evidence, including the retrieval of multiple shell casings.
