BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — March 15, 2024

Emergency responders responded to the corner of 10th Street and North Walnut on Friday morning as a truck pulling a trailer careened into the west wall of an apartment building and came to a rest.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, the incident unfolded around 8:17 a.m. when officers were summoned to the scene of what was described as an injury accident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a beige 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan was traveling eastbound on 10th Street. The driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly proceeded under the assumption of having the right of way at the intersection with N. Walnut St. However, uncertainty lingered regarding the traffic signal’s indication.

Simultaneously, a white 2022 Ford F550 pickup truck towing a trailer and equipment was heading northbound on N. Walnut Street. The driver asserted having received a green light to proceed through the intersection with 10th Street.

Dashcam footage from the Ford F550 supported the driver’s claim, showing the vehicle lawfully passing through the intersection while the Volkswagen allegedly ran the red light.

Upon impact, the Ford F550 veered off the road, crashing into the Fox Row Apartments situated at 604 N. Walnut Street. The collision inflicted significant damage to multiple units within the apartment complex.

Fortunately, injuries resulting from the incident were limited. The driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan sustained minor injuries to her arm, receiving on-scene medical attention.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. As of now, no charges have been announced.
