Man Injures Hand in Accidental Shooting at Rural King

Bloomington, Indiana – March 19, 2024

The Bloomington Police Department responded to an accidental shooting at Rural King on March 15th around 5:45 p.m. According to police, a man inadvertently shot himself in the hand inside the store.

Upon arrival, officers found the man near the gun counter with a gunshot wound to his left hand. The wound was bleeding, officers applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding until emergency medical services arrived.

The man was attempting to unload a Taurus G3c 9mm pistol when the firearm discharged, striking him in the hand. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in the incident.

Emergency responders transported the injured man to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not released the identity of the individual involved in the accident.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of firearm safety procedures, especially when handling or attempting to unload weapons.
