Hanes Teams Up with Sara Scalia and NIL Athletes for March Madness Campaign

Written from press release

Bloomington, IN – April 3, 2024

As March Madness fever grips the nation, Hanes, America’s leading basic apparel provider, is making a bold play by partnering with NIL athletes for an immersive campaign, with Indiana’s own Sara Scalia at the forefront.

Sara Scalia, hailing from Indiana, is among seven athletes handpicked by Hanes for their Women’s 3-Point Championship, slated for this Thursday. The collaboration marks a significant milestone as Hanes ventures into the realm of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) partnerships.

The “Soft Touch” campaign, supporting the launch of Hanes’ latest collection, Hanes Originals with SuperSoft Styles, has set its sights on engaging college campuses across the country. As part of the initiative, Hanes set up interactive basketball shooting experiences at dozens of universities, where students competed for coveted prizes such as boxer briefs and t-shirts.

Laina Pevide, Account Executive at Duffy & Shanley, the agency behind the campaign, expressed excitement about the collaboration. “Hanes has embarked on a journey to redefine its brand image by aligning with top-notch athletes like Sara Scalia,” Pevide stated. “The ‘Soft Touch’ campaign is not just about promoting apparel; it’s about creating memorable experiences for college students and celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship.”

Joining Sara Scalia in this venture are six other standout athletes: RJ Davis, Boo Buie, Antonio Reeves, Boogie Ellis, Laila Phelia, and Jacy Sheldon. Notably, Buie, Reeves, and Ellis are also slated to participate in the upcoming 3-Point Championship events.

In a move to amplify the campaign’s reach, Hanes has tapped into the power of social media, with Sara Scalia and her fellow athletes expected to share exclusive content across their platforms. While Scalia’s content is set to go live soon, glimpses of the campus activations and athlete imagery are already available for viewing.

Drew Russell, Executive Vice President of Properties and Media Assets at Intersport, has been designated as the campaign’s spokesperson. Russell is poised to shed light on various aspects of the Hanes 3-Point Championship, the significance of NIL partnerships, and broader trends shaping the college basketball landscape.

As Hanes continues to champion inclusivity and athleticism through its partnership with Sara Scalia and other NIL athletes, the “Soft Touch” campaign stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation and community engagement in the realm of collegiate sports.
